Visitors from Polen

A Polish delegation visited Denmark in March 2004. SustainAgri arranged a technical trip in which they were informed about the region environmental protection programs and visited several locations. Among these were a mediumsized pig farm. In their foot-steps were a camera-crew and a reporter who were making a TV-program for Polish television.

It was a great success!

The main theme of this tour was public control with industry and agriculture. The focus was on the Danish implementation of EU legislation exemplified by slaughterhouses and farming. Speeches were given by senior public officials and there were visits to local firms together with guides (all of this was conducted i English).

The main topics were:
  • The Funen County infrastructure, staff and environmental tasks.
  • Inspection procedures on the basis of approvals.
  • EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) in relation to domestic animals – screening, approval, conflict, problems and challenges.
  • a lecture on the Odense Pilot River Basin project; a test study for the EU Water Framework Directory.
  • Danish solutions to environmental problems in modern agriculture; the technical solutions available from Danish suppliers.
Two demonstration locations were visited in order to see theory put into practice in real-life settings:
  1. Danish Crown Odense, where they were shown how inspections and supervision are carried out in practice between the Funen County and the industry.
  2. A Danish pig farm, where the delegation were shown how an inspection is carried out on a modern pig farm and also saw how the inspection between the farmers the public officials works in practice.
The delegation had accommodation and dinner at a B& B in Falsled – an old farmhouse in scenic surroundings near the sea. Later, the delegation visited the museum Brandts Klædefabrik and had a guided tour through the ancient streets of Odense.
